Meant to fave it last time but I got distracted. I never had a theory class, I just shared what my mom taught me (I keep telling her she's earned her master's degree 3X over with how many free art lessons she's given and art she's worked on. She's even struck on a theory about art helping with learning disabilities).
XD Thanks. And yeah, your mom DOES sound like she's earned herself a degree just by experience. I'm pretty sure she could test for it too...>.> I totally agree with her on the learning disabilities thing! I've seen it actually work in my school. Some of the kids have difficulty learning things, but if art is put into let's say, a math lesson, they tend to have an easier time getting it due to the visual aid.
She could test for it? Hmmm. She tried to get into a Mater's program years ago and they said that her BA was "too old" and she'd need to go back to school for undergrad work. She was feeling blue about this, and decided to walk around the art dept to think. She saw this student working on a project and struggling. She asked him what he was trying to do and he told her. She suggested a certain technique and he tried it and it worked. Then he asked her "So are you in the Master's program too?". That statement made her feel justified, even if the school wouldn't give her the paper that proved she was advanced enough.
Yeah, and not just learning disabilities, for two years she taught these ADHD kids and they were more focused and calmer when they had their art lessons on a regular basis (this was proven when their mom decided she didn't want to take them to lessons any more and they started acting up again). But my mom does better with visual learning than any other type so she knows it's true.
Maybe. I know people can test for stuff like foreign languages and get a degree (I almost did that for German, but decided to major in animation instead and minor in international relations), so I assume you can take a proficiency test in pretty much anything else. Especially if you already have a degree. And I can see what she was hitting on with the ADHD kids. It bugs the heck out of me when people say those kids can't focus on anything. And actually...a LOT of them are artists and tend to focus on art because it's something they enjoy. They just don't care about anything else, which is what leads people to think there's something wrong with them. I've seen the same thing happen with ADHD kids and math too. If they like it, they focus on it Kinda like a savant.
